The Value of Water Campaign, spearheaded by leading organizations and individuals, educates the nation about how our water is essential, invaluable, and in need of investment. The Value of Water Campaign has been building public and political will for investment in America’s aging and failing water infrastructure since 2015. Businesses, communities, food producers, and families across the country all know that nothing works without water. That’s why the campaign is launching United for Water, an opportunity for an even broader coalition to make the case for sustained water investment.
WE’RE UNITED FOR WATER
Voter support for prioritizing water has never been higher. 92% of voters view reliable water as a very or extremely important issue.
Every dollar invested in water drives economic growth, local jobs, public health, and community preparedness.
Yet despite historic progress, our nation’s water investment gap continues to widen—now exceeding $91 billion annually. Without reliable, sustained investment, communities can’t plan, protect public health, or build for the future.
When we invest in water, we all win. Together, we are United for Water, and we affirm the following principles:
Water is the foundation of a healthy America. Water is the most basic ingredient for public health. Unless all in America have access to safe, reliable, and affordable water, we will never create a healthy nation.
Water grows the economy. The US economy would grow over $220 billion annually by meeting its water infrastructure needs. This would generate 1.3 million new jobs.
Water supports jobs. Over 300,000 Americans work at their local water utility. The water sector more broadly supports 1.7 million jobs. Many more of these family sustaining jobs could be created with proper investment.
Water security keeps us safe. In addition to supporting safe, reliable daily services, modern and resilient water systems are critical to disaster prevention and recovery.
Water is essential to our natural resources. Healthy waterways preserve habitats and help secure America’s natural legacies for future generations.
Water’s role in a strong America is clear. Yet, the annual $91 billion national water infrastructure investment gap puts our economy, communities, natural resources, and national security at risk.
